New collection without waste
To reduce the amount of waste, we at Segers have now developed a new pattern that covers a full 99.9% of the fabric's surface, which completely eliminates fabric waste. This also eliminates the previous overproduction and we can now produce clothes from all the fabric we purchase.
We have created a completely new collection inspired by the restaurant industry's Zero Waste philosophy. Thanks to the new pattern, no fabric goes to waste in the new collection. A circular flow where we make use of textiles that would otherwise have been discarded.

0% FABRIC WASTE

18.8 REUSE PET BOTTLES/SET

50% MIX OF WOOD CHIPS & COTTON WASTE
Set with shirt and pants
The collection is launched with a short-sleeved chef's jacket with a V-neck and matching trousers. The clothes are cool and comfortable to work in and maintain the same fine TENCEL™ quality as the other TENCEL garments in the Segers Green range. The exclusive edition is limited to 400 copies.
Made from fabric scraps and recycled plastic waste
The fabric for the Zero Waste set has been developed together with the textile developer [a]industri in Gothenburg. The TENCEL™ fabric from Klopman is in turn made from two different textile fibers.

A collection for the future
Segers Zero Waste is an exciting example of how we as clothing manufacturers can develop our methods and working practices to contribute to a more sustainable world. A collection of trendsetting garments that save fabric, look good for the restaurant guest, and at the same time last long
Smarter folding in recycled paper bags
The garments will also be folded in a so-called "military fold," where we fold the garments inside out into themselves. The folding saves packing volume during transport and we will also pack the garments in recycled paper bags.

Since 1943, Segers has been a significant player in the hotel and restaurant industry. Segers owns its own factories, and having full control over them is an important part of the sustainability work, says Peter Frank, product manager. |
But the major sustainable achievement is made by producing workwear that lasts long and can be used extensively. – What is especially important for us and our customers is the usage time for how long one can use our products. Sustainable products are products with a long lifetime and maintained quality, says Peter
Product development is ongoing for Segers' range. – We look ahead and constantly test new materials, fibers, and compositions. New materials must have high qualitative durability, and now we are taking the next step regarding the environmental aspect.
Segers has introduced its own label, Segers Green, for products with environmentally better choices and long lifespan. – Currently, we have a number of items with a sustainability profile, and during 2022 we will launch even more products. It is important to still have good durability in the clothes that withstand handling, use, and the number of washes. It benefits no one to produce sustainable clothes that do not have the right qualitative durability. Therefore, we rigorously test the products to ensure they meet Segers' quality standards. In the restaurant industry, there has always been a strong focus on products lasting long and looking the same after both the first and the fiftieth wash.
– It takes time to create new sustainable solutions and ensure their quality. There is a lot of work behind making sure the products hold up just as well, and we work closely with fabric suppliers to ensure the quality level. Segers' sustainability work also includes looking at chemical usage. Using the right chemicals and generally reducing usage.
"We look ahead and constantly test new materials, fibers, and compositions"
– There are better processes now, for example in dyeing. It is possible to reuse and reduce chemicals in the dyeing process and thereby reduce the amount of dye. Water usage is also a focus area we are looking at, just like renewable energy where suppliers have progressed to different extents. All aspects contribute to a more sustainable whole. With only a few years left until the 80th anniversary, Segers has clearly set its sights on the future.
– Moving forward, new products will push boundaries with a strong focus on sustainability. There is a lot happening in sustainability; it shows when we talk to suppliers working on new solutions. There is also increased demand from customers and in procurement processes driving sustainability forward.
